Technology Grants

MALiA encourages innovative use of technology in libraries by supporting its members through grants for library technology projects that foster and encourage digital literacy, library use, life-long learning, and/or community engagement. Awards in amounts between $500 - $1,500 will be awarded annually in the Fall.

Applicant libraries must be MALiA members in good standing. Award determinations will be based upon innovation of the project, thoroughness of the application, and strength of assessment measures.

Grant restrictions:

  • The project must be purchased by February 1st following the disbursement of the technology grant funds.
  • Proposals are limited to library employees or the member library's Friends organization. Foundations and library boards may not apply.
  • Library directors must be aware of the technology grant application before it is submitted.
  • We recommend getting subject matter experts (SMEs) onboard before applying for the technology grant. This can include your IT department, outside partners who would use the technology, or other potential stakeholders.
  • If awarded grant partially funds the project, please provide the status of the remaining balance required funding in application below.

Successful technology grant recipients must submit an after-action report including evaluation results by May 15 following the award. Failure to complete the technology grant report may impact future eligibility for MALiA Technology Grants. Materials purchased with technology grants should include a press release, social media post, or physical indicator that it was purchased with MALiA funding. Please send your technology grant report to grants@malialibrary.org. Any changes to the original technology grant proposal must be approved by the technology grant committee before the money is spent. By submitting this form, you agree to all terms laid out in the Technology Grant Application.
